Visions of Zambia

I was delighted to collaborate with the sight charity Orbis. Orbis works with many of the world’s leading ophthalmic surgeons to deliver surgery to children and adults who have lost their vision to cataracts, trachoma and other eye problems.

In many cases this surgery fully restores the sight of the individual. Further to this, Orbis trains in-country health professionals to continue this vital work.

I travelled to Kitwe Hospital Eye Annexe in Northern Zambia in July 2017 to meet many of the children and adults who had this sight-saving surgery as well as the surgeons and other medical professionals who delivered it.

This journey provided me with the experiences necessary to make an exhibition of paintings that told the stories of those involved in this miraculous process. The exhibition was shown at the Mall Galleries Threadneedle Space in March 2018.
